10 Hindi Cinemas Adapted from Novels
#1 Guide (1965)
The ‘Guide’ is a critically acclaimed novel by R.K. Narayan wrote. Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman were chosen as the cast for this movie. In order to make the movie more interesting, the end was written a bit differently, in the movie.

#2 Devdas (1936, 1955, 2002)
Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote this Bengali romantic novel. ‘Devdas’ 2003 was the 3rd version of the novel and was played by Shahrukh Khan, Aishwariya Ray, Madhuri Dixit, and Jackie Shroff.

#3 Haider (2014)
Haider is a commendable fusion of an Elizabethan drama, ‘Hamlet’, and a Bollywood movie. This version of Shakespearean tragedy was based on the setting of the insurgency-torn Kashmir of 1995, where there was a massive dispute between India and Pakistan.

#4 Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathewali is an official adaptation of a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Along with Alia Bhatt, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, and Seema Pahwa, Ajay Devgan, Imraan Hashmi, and Huma Qureshi are part of the cast.

#5 Monica, O My Darling (2022)
This neo-noir crime thriller is adapted from the novel ‘Burutasu No Shinzou’ by Japanese author Keigo Higashino in 1989. Director Vasan Bala played wise in the casting game and appointed Huma Qureshi, Rajkummar Rao, and Radhika Apte to play the roles.

#6 Sarkar (2005)
Director Ram Gopal Verma’s three-part crime thriller ‘Sarkar’ starred Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, which was influenced by Francis Ford Coppola’s eponymous adaptation of Mario Puzo’s ‘The Godfather’.

#7 Fitoor (2016)
This adaptation of Charles Dickens ‘Great Expectations” starred Tabu, Katrina Kaif, and Aditya Roy Kapur. Set in Kashmir, the movie follows a poor boy who gets hired to be a stable of a wealthy family’s estate. When he begins to get closer to the heir of the family, he is sent away until they reunite years later.

#8 Raazi (2018)
Raazi is based on a novel, ‘Calling Sehmat’, by Harinder Sikka. The story is believed to be based on actual events. Meghna Gulzar’s cinematic adaptation of the story of an Indian spy starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal has already made a big hit.

#9 Saawariya (2007)
Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor’s big movie ‘Saawariya’ was inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky’s 1848 short story ‘White Nights’.

#10 Lootera (2013)
Starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha, ‘Lootera’, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, was an adaptation of O. Henry’s short story, ‘The Last Leaf’ but partly. It follows the tragic love story between a young con man posing as an archaeologist and the daughter of a Bengali landlord.
