What is a UFO?
A mystery object observed in the sky for which no standard scientific explanation has been discovered is frequently thought to be a transport carrying extraterrestrials.

The United States Air Force (USAF) created the name "UFO" (or "UFOB") in 1953 to act as a catch-all for all such claims. The USAF first defined a "UFOB" as "any flying object that, by performance, aerodynamic characteristics, or odd features, does not conform to any presently known aircraft or missile type, or that cannot be definitively recognized as a familiar item."

UFOs were frequently referred to as "flying saucers" or "flying discs" throughout the late 1940s and early 1950s due to the Kenneth Arnold event, which popularized the phrase.

Scientists and astronomers are divided on whether or not intelligent life exists in the cosmos. However, scientists usually discount the possibility of aliens visiting Earth.

Aside from media portrayals of UFOs, UFOs are also a component of American folk culture. Alien and flying saucer concepts are part of American folklore.
