There lived a shepherd in a village. He was of greedy nature, always thinking about how he can become the richest in the village. He had some goats and their kids. Which were his means of livelihood.

Once he took his goats to graze on the hill near the forest away from the village. Today he set out on a new path in search of good grass. He had just moved ahead a short distance when suddenly it started raining heavily and stormy winds started blowing. The shepherd started looking for a safe place to escape the storm. He saw a cave at some height. When the shepherd tied the goats there and went to inspect the place, his eyes widened in tears. There were many wild sheep present there.

Seeing the fat and strong sheep, the shepherd got greedy. He thought that if these sheep became his, he would become the richest in the village. No one in many nearby villages has such good and so many sheep.

He thought in his mind that the opportunity is good, I will seduce them and make them mine in some time. Then I will take them along and go to the village.

Thinking this he came back down. Seeing his thin and weak goats getting wet in the rain, he thought that now when I have so many healthy sheep, why do I need these goats? He immediately untied the goats and without caring about getting wet in the rain, he used some ropes. Prepared a big bundle of grass from it.

He once again reached the cave with the bundle and kept feeding the sheep with green grass with his hands for a long time. When the storm subsided, he came out. He saw that all his goats had gone from that place to somewhere else.

The shepherd had no regrets about the departure of these goats, rather he was happy that today he had got such good sheep together for free. Thinking this, he turned back towards the cave but what… As soon as the rain stopped, the sheep came out from there and started moving towards the other side. He quickly ran towards them and tried to take them with him. But there were so many sheep that he alone could not control them… within a short time all the sheep disappeared from his sight.

Seeing all this the shepherd got angry. He shouted and said ;

" For you I left my goats out in the rain. I worked so hard to cut the grass and feed it… and you all left me and went away… how selfish you all really are "

The shepherd sat there feeling distraught. After his anger subsided, he realized that it was not the sheep who were selfish but he himself, who lost his goats due to greed for the sheep.

Lesson from the story:-

This story teaches us that the person who leaves his loved ones due to selfishness and greed, no one becomes his own and in the end he has to repent.

THE END !
