Emily Ratajkowski (Part 2)

After her appearance in the "Blurred Lines" music video, Emily Ratajkowski was selected by Ben Affleck to portray the mistress of his character in David Fincher's 2014 adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel, "Gone Girl". Her performance received praise from critics, with the San Diego Union-Tribune describing it as "nuanced". Naomi Wolf, reflecting on Ratajkowski's portrayal in 2016, described her performance as sympathetic and compassionate.
In August 2015, Ratajkowski appeared in "We Are Your Friends", playing the character Sophie. While critics Richard Roeper and Wesley Morris criticized her performance, she continued to gain traction in the fashion industry. She appeared on various magazine covers, including Vogue Germany and Glamour, and became the face of several brands, such as DL1961 jeans, The Frye Company, and DKNY.

Ratajkowski's involvement in the fashion world continued in subsequent years, with her appearances on runways during Milan Fashion Week and her collaboration with The Kooples to design a bag collection. She also ventured into other creative endeavors, such as designing a jewelry collection and launching her own swimwear brand, Inamorata, in November 2017.
In addition to her fashion ventures, Ratajkowski expanded her career into acting, landing roles in projects like the NBC pilot "Bright Futures" and the comedy film "I Feel Pretty", alongside Amy Schumer. She also received recognition for her activism and writing, with the release of her essay collection titled "My Body" in November 2021.

Despite facing challenges and frustrations in the entertainment industry, including an incident during the filming of the "Blurred Lines" music video and struggles with Hollywood's culture, Ratajkowski continued to pursue her passions. As of February 2024, she was reportedly in talks to join the cast of the series "Too Much", created by Lena Dunham, signaling a potential return to acting.

Emily Ratajkowski has faced several instances of unauthorized use of her image and privacy violations throughout her career. In 2014, she was one of the victims of the celebrity nude photo leak, during which several of her private nude pictures were illegally distributed online.
Artist Richard Prince also appropriated one of Ratajkowski's Instagram posts without her consent in 2014. He included the resulting painting in a show at the Gagosian Gallery in New York.

Years later, Ratajkowski took a photograph of herself standing in front of the Prince painting and created a non-fungible token (NFT) from it, which sold at auction for $175,000. This action was aimed at symbolically setting a precedent for women to have ongoing authority over their image and to receive rightful compensation for its usage and distribution.
In another incident, 71 photographs taken by Jonathan Leder in May 2012 were being printed in a publication by Imperial Publishing and set for display in a New York art gallery in February 2017.

Ratajkowski expressed her objection to being featured in the photobook without her consent. She later elaborated on the circumstances of the photoshoot in an essay, revealing that she never gave consent for the photographs to be used beyond their initial publication in Darius magazine and alleging that Leder sexually assaulted her after the photoshoot.
Additionally, Ratajkowski took issue with image editing done for the cover of Madame Figaro included in the September 16, 2017 issue of Le Figaro.
Furthermore, in October 2019, Ratajkowski was sued for posting a paparazzi image of herself to her Instagram. The paparazzo argued that Ratajkowski's posting of the photo constituted copyright infringement. Despite the lawsuit, Ratajkowski decided against settling and challenged the claim against her. In 2022, a settlement was ruled in her favor, stating that she had not infringed the copyright.

Emily Ratajkowski has been vocal about her views on female sexual empowerment and feminism. In a letter published in Lena Dunham's Lenny Letter newsletter in February 2016, Ratajkowski discussed the pressure she faced regarding her sexuality during her youth and shared her thoughts on female sexual empowerment. The letter received praise from critics and was republished by several major publications. Ratajkowski has also defended her stance on feminism in various interviews and social media posts, emphasizing the importance of women's right to express their sexuality and advocating against body shaming.

Despite receiving criticism from some quarters, Ratajkowski has remained steadfast in her advocacy for female empowerment. She has spoken out in support of fellow celebrities like Kim Kardashian, defending their right to express themselves freely. However, her views have also faced scrutiny, with some questioning her motives and commitment to feminism.
In 2021, Ratajkowski published her first book, "My Body," which further explores her experiences and perspectives on topics such as feminism, sexuality, and body image. The book includes personal stories and essays that delve into Ratajkowski's journey towards self-acceptance and empowerment.
