Two of the approximately 36 thousand fish species that have managed to survive in marine ecosystems for millions of years continue to keep their place on the agenda. Blowfish and lionfish are notorious for both their toxicity and the damage they cause to their environment. So, what is puffer fish, is it edible?

The family of pufferfishes, or Tetraodontidae by their scientific name, is a family belonging to the order Tetraodontiformes. Lagocephalus sceleratus, commonly known as the silver-cheeked frogfish, is a highly venomous fish in the Tetraodontidae family.

Its presence in the seas of Europe was detected in the early 2000s. This species is also known as passively poisonous fish. Their spines do not contain poison. When pufferfish feel in danger, they inflate their abdomens like frogs to avoid becoming prey and reach several times their normal size.

Lagocephalus sceleratus, commonly known as the silver-cheeked frogfish, is a highly venomous fish in the family Tetraodontidae. Pufferfish are considered potentially poisonous even if they do not have any limbs to inject venom into their bodies.

Sea creatures can sometimes be beneficial for health and sometimes dangerous. Before consuming fish and seafood, it is recommended to get information from a fisherman or an expert who knows this business well. Because sea creatures consumed unconsciously can have serious consequences, sometimes even leading to poisoning and even loss of life.

Will a Blowfish Attack a Human?
The puffer fish, which has an aggressive structure, usually inflates to protect itself from the creatures around it. Balloon fish, which now appear even in shallow waters due to global climate change, suddenly start to swell, realizing the danger that will come to them. When they notice external factors such as human hands, fishing line, octopus, pufferfish are prone to attack.

According to scientists, these fish have the ability to inflate to defend themselves against other fish. When the general skeletal structure is examined, the fish, which are quite bulky, move very slowly under water to escape from enemies. The spines on the skin of pufferfish form a protective wall when inflated. Inflating like a balloon to protect themselves from larger fish, pufferfish inflate themselves under the chin among all species. By inflating from under the chin to the body, it prevents foreign fish from moving around.

alpine arrest and paralysis can occur Blowfish has very serious negative effects on heart health. Cardiac arrest can occur. Dizziness and sweating occur due to poisoning, as in many other cases of poisoning. There can be numbness in the limbs and a general paralysis can occur. Many people who go in and out of intensive care also develop heart failure. Therefore, it is extremely dangerous to consume puffer fish.
