In a recent reflection on Venezuela's political landscape, I have been reading the heart-wrenching journey of Miguel, a retired Metrobús driver from Caracas. 

Miguel, once a fervent believer in Hugo Chávez's populist promises, now grapples with economic hardship—a meager retirement income that shattered his dreams of travel and entrepreneurship, and a political climate that forced his daughter to emigrate. His story is a stark reminder of the human cost of political disillusionment.

Hugo Chávez, affectionately known as the 'lefty of Sabaneta,' once mesmerized Venezuela with his charismatic promises and the nation's oil-fueled wealth. However, despite the vast revenues, which economist Manuel Sutherland equates to ten Marshall Plans, Chávez's era fell short of addressing the root causes of inequality.
