Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause respiratory illness in humans and animals. The most common symptoms of coronavirus infection in humans include cough, fever, shortness of breath, and fatigue. In more severe cases, coronavirus infection can lead to pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and death.
The first known case of coronavirus infection in humans occurred in 2003 with the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). SARS was caused by a coronavirus known as SARS-CoV. The outbreak spread to 29 countries and resulted in the deaths of over 770 people.
In 2012, another coronavirus outbreak occurred, this time with Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). MERS was caused by a coronavirus known as MERS-CoV. The outbreak spread to 27 countries and resulted in the deaths of over 800 people.
In December 2019, a new coronavirus outbreak was first reported in Wuhan, China. This coronavirus, known as SARS-CoV-2, is the cause of the disease COVID-19. COVID-19 has spread rapidly around the world and has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.

COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease that can spread through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
The symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild to severe. Some people may experience no symptoms at all. Others may experience mild symptoms, such as a cough, fever, and fatigue. In more severe cases, COVID-19 can lead to pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and death.
There is no specific treatment for COVID-19. Treatment is supportive and may include rest, fluids, and medications to relieve symptoms. In severe cases, hospitalization may be necessary.
There are a number of things that people can do to protect themselves from COVID-19. These include:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Stay home if you are sick.

Vaccines are available to protect people from COVID-19. The vaccines are effective at preventing serious illness, hospitalization, and death.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the world. It has caused widespread illness and death, and it has disrupted economies and societies. There is still much that we do not know about COVID-19, but scientists are working hard to develop treatments and vaccines to protect people from this disease.
