" Success Depends On IQ or EQ ? "

It is said that change is the law of nature and only those creatures can survive in this changing nature which can fit or adjust themselves with the change. It means ‘survival of the fittest’.

We have to face competition in every field, be it professional life, social life or personal life. Man has to overcome adverse situations in every field. Since ancient times, intelligence has been considered the criterion of success. It is believed that there is a positive correlation between a person's IQ and his success. That means if IQ is high then the chances of being successful increases. In other words, a person with higher IQ is considered better than a person with lower IQ. Can a person with an average IQ be more successful than a person with a genius IQ? What are your thoughts about ‘book smart’ and ‘street smart’ individuals? Is there any difference between the two? So the answer is yes, there is a difference and that is EMOTIONAL QUOTIENT or EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE.

IQ only gets you good marks in academics or the exams of your educational institution but EQ gets you good marks in the exams of your life.

Emotionally intelligent people adapt most quickly to the changing environment and hence their chances of survival increase. Emotionally intelligent people do not just deal with facts but also deal with emotions along with facts. Instead of giving more emphasis on ‘what’, they give more emphasis on ‘why’ and ‘how’. They know that every person is different, so keeping individual differences in mind, they behave differently instead of treating everyone the same. Along with their own emotions, they also manage the emotions of others. To be successful in today's environment, it is important that you have good communication and organizational skills so that you can take good decisions and deal with others in a better way.

Goleman was the first to tell about EQ or EI ;

He said that 20% success in life is due to IQ while 80% success is due to EI.

When the manager of a big company AT & T Bells Labs was asked to rank his employees, his criterion was not high IQ but his criterion was good relationships and how well they deal with their clients. Often in schools and colleges, more emphasis is given to the aptitude test scores obtained by the students. But we forget that these tests are just a set of questions which we consider as the criteria for the success of the students. There are very few schools or colleges where any program on emotional intelligence is conducted. In his famous book 'Emotional Intelligence', Daniel Goleman has written that a genius student stabbed his professor just because he gave him low marks in the exam, so can this kind of intelligence ever be the criterion of real success? Aristotle has also said, “Anyone can become angry- that is easy but to be angry with the right person to the right degree at the right time for the right purpose and in the right way, this is absolutely not easy.” .” Goleman has also said that people who develop emotional skills within themselves are more likely to be effective and more satisfied in their lives.

People who have low EQ spend their lives counting their problems because they focus more on 'What' rather than 'How'. In the beginning of mankind, man had to take many decisions like this. There were some decisions which could have saved his life and there were some decisions which could have cost him his life. Studies have found that the human brain has two parts, one is the emotional mind and the other is the rational mind. It is believed that the emotional mind works faster than the rational mind. If man did not have control over his emotional mind then perhaps the human race would not exist today. Unfortunately, there is a direct relationship between poor emotional skills and increasing crime rates. Children whose emotional skills are not developed very quickly become victims of anti-social activities. Poor emotional and social skills lead to poor concentration and frustration, which leads to poor relationships and, as a result, performance. Emotional skills can be developed in a child from the beginning, for this it is very important to support the entire family. Along with managing their own emotions, children can be taught to take care of the emotions of others as well. Self control and delay of gratification are all aspects of emotional skills. If we want to be successful in life then it is very important to recognize the emotions of others. Good emotional skills are the hallmark of a good leader. You must have seen many people who got very good marks in their school and college but they have very few friends and they fail to maintain most of the relationships in life. Healthy relationships are the essence of a happy life, so focus on developing EQ or EI instead of high IQ. Now it depends on you whether you want to be called just ‘intelligent’ or ‘sensible’.

My friends, ” It is with the heart that one sees rightly, what is essential is often invisible to eyes”

Note:- IQ= Intelligence Quotient
EQ= Emotional Quotient ; EI= Emotional Intelligence
