My Tax Law Journey

I went to see a friend during the 2020 Covid-19 time, and as we chatted, she mentioned the "Coursera" app she was using to take classes in alternative dispute resolution and how it was certifiable. I was somewhat intrigued, but I didn't look into it any more.

In June 2021, the student chamber to which I belonged asked me to arrange a Google Meet Program on Tax Law. A well-known attorney was scheduled to speak, so I did some study on tax law in relation to the subject at hand.

My curiosity in tax law first piqued at that point, and I made the decision to do more research on the subject after remembering what a buddy had said about Coursera's certification programs. Although it was somewhat challenging, I was able to complete the Leiden University course "Rethinking International Tax Law" with a passing grade. I gained a lot of knowledge from it, including that of corporate and individual income taxes, tax havens, and most importantly, how taxes are calculated in my country and how they differ from those in Third World nations. The distinction between tax invasion and avoidance, which are typically related but not the same.

Additionally, I learned about the many tax-related decision-making organizations and tax treaties. The method of base erosion and profit shifting (BEPS).

I completed the course in six weeks with weekly quizzes and peer-graded assignments, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
