Elizabeth Alexandra Mary (Later Queen Elizabeth II) was the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) from 6th February 1952 until her death. She died on the 8th of September, 2022 aged 96. She was born to Prince Albert, Duke of York (Later King George VI) and Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (Later Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother). She had a younger sister, Margaret (Later Princess Margaret).

No one would have predicted that Queen Elizabeth would one day rule over the United Kingdom as she was the daughter of the younger son of King George V and her uncle Prince Edward (Later King Edward VIII) was famous and much loved by the people. It was only when King Edward VIII, shocked the whole world by giving up the throne to marry the love of his life that it became apparent that Elizabeth would one day be Queen. Upon the abdication of her uncle, her father immediately assumed the throne as King George VI and she became heir apparent. In 1947 during the Royal tour of South Africa with her father, on her 21st birthday, she delivered the famous birthday speech that became the principle by which she ruled and indeed lived. She married Prince Phillip of Greece and Denmark (Later Prince Phillip of Edinburgh), her distant cousin and they had four children including King Charles III, the ruling monarch.

Queen Elizabeth II assumed the throne on the 6th of February 1952 upon the death of her father and was coronated on the 2nd of June 1953 in a very colorful and prestigious event. Her reign saw peace and prosperity in the United Kingdom and the strengthening of the commonwealth. She tried to be as accessible as possible to her subjects and visited various nations that was never before visited by a British monarch. Despite the decolonization and independence of most of the countries under the British Empire in the 60s, her subjects in these nations still loved and adored her. She strived to modernize monarchy and to change the way the public saw royalty.

Queen Elizabeth II was widely known for her elegance, confidence, courage and calmness even in the face of adversity. She is loved by peoples all over the world and has always been seen as a beacon of hope and a symbol of peace. She was the longest reigning monarch having ruled for 70 years. Indeed there might never again be a monarch as great as Queen Elizabeth II.
